To reach the project objectives, the research is divided into five workpackages (WPs) made up of different tasks. Each WP has been allocated a leader responsible for coordinating the work carried out by the different task leaders and partners within the WP. The workpackages follow the logical stages of the project life cycle, from the identification of end users needs to the online publication of the APPEAR Guide and the existing practices database.

The first two workpackages constitute the framework of the research and of the production of the main resources. The last three workpackages aim to optimise and assess the research done in the first two and to ensure dissemination of the results.
Applied to the problem of accessibility projects from two different angles that are necessarily complementary, the first two workpackages will develop in parallel and feed into each other throughout the research. The first task of these two WPs will mainly focus on end users needs. WP1 aims to elaborate a decision-making process model including a tool for monitoring the socio-cultural impact of accessibility projects. In the form of an action program, this model will integrate the methodological and practical resources produced in WP2. The objective of the second WP is to give a structure to these resources, in the form of an operational organisation chart, useful for interventions relating to the conservation, integration, enhancement and exploitation of an archaeological site in an urban setting.
In substantive terms, the integration of the results of WP1 and WP2 will be achieved through the work of the seven Consortium working meetings scheduled in the coordination framework (WP5). At research milestones, these Consortium working meetings will be included in the evaluation process scheduled in WP3.
WP3 aims to ensure that the research carried out in the first two WPs is on track to meet needs identified in real situations. An Advisory Board will be appointed to assess the results produced by WP1 and WP2 at the above-mentioned milestones. Furthermore, Local Authorities Representatives will be consulted during the research in order to guarantee the applicability of the results in the field, taking into account local conditions.
WP4 will ensure efficient and continuous dissemination of information relevant to the research mainly through the development and activities on the APPEAR web site. Additionally, WP4 will organise an international conference in order to present the pre-APPEAR Guide and to obtain feedback from the delegates, thus ensuring a wide dissemination of project results and follow-up of its impact.
Production of the APPEAR Guide and of the "existing practices" database, which are intended to support those involved in accessibility projects, are the principal anticipated project results. In order to reach this objective, active coordination assured in WP5 should maintain a common orientation to the research led by a multidisciplinary Consortium.
